Do you remember your first email address?
I don’t remember my first email address for many reasons:
- it was 1992
- my memory is not what it was
- it read something like user45678@compuserve.com, hardly memorable!
Today, many email addresses end with gmail.com , hotmail.com or thenameofyour isp.com . People use them because they are often free and easy to obtain. Many times accounts are assigned to users whether they asked for them or not. These email addresses work perfectly fine for personal or family accounts but not for legitimate businesses.
Business should not use one of these generic email addresses for business email – They send out the wrong message.
Would you trust a real estate transaction to a lawyer with the email address lawyer1021@gmail.com?
How about getting your business taxes done by the accountant taxesareme77@hotmail.com?
What unintended, negative messages are these professionals sending out to clients and potential clients?
I believe that using these types of email addresses tell people:
- that you are really just starting out and haven’t got all your ducks in a row
- that you might be trying out this business venture to see how it works out before you commit
- you are not really serious about what your doing
It doesn’t have to be this way!
